For writers and readers, Goodreads is certainly a familiar site. In this social cataloging website, everyone can search the database of books, annotations, quotes, and reviews.
In Goodreads Indonesia, the readers comunity who have been members of Goodreads Indonesia since more than ten years ago, has made the peak of their reading activities in an Indonesian Readers Festival which is held annualy. The festival is always held lively and attended by more than 15,000 registered members.
This year, despite the limitations of being completely online due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Indonesian Readers Festival is still held in collaboration with Patjar Merah, a community that was founded in 2018 which also holds literacy festivals and book markets in different places every year.
This inter-festival collaboration, which was initiated by two different communities, has taken place virtually since June 26 and will end on July 4.
"For us, this is a positive thing. We collaborate inter-festival because we are aware that access to equal literacy will be faster and better if it is done in mutual cooperation," said Yoga, one of Goodreads Indonesia's activists as quoted from Goodreads.com. (Thursday, 01/07/2021)
Many interesting events such as a virtual book markets, workshops, book discussions, cinematic theater performances, to Indonesian Readers Award will be held free for public. Famous writers such as Joko Pinurbo, Raditya Dika, Ivan Lanin, and dozens of others will also enlivened the event and become the speakers of each event.
Some of the events that have taken place this week are the discussion of scary stories with the Kisah Tanah Jawa, the story of the documentary film Pulau Plastik with the speaker Dandhy Laksono, the Fairy Tale Gathering which invited 50 children aged 6-13 years to participate, the crime fiction discussion, and Indonesian culinary stories.
Not only that, a lots of interesting events, such as the papermoon puppet theater performance, feminism in fiction discussion, video making competition, and many more will be held continuesly until the inter-festival collaboration ends on 4 July.
